Graduate Student Ambassador Program Introduction

Clemson University strives to increase its diversity by recruiting students from countries and populations underrepresented on our campus.

One successful method we have found is the Graduate School Ambassadors Program, through which students and faculty from these countries and populations serve as links to prospective students in the U.S. and around the world. Ambassadors may travel domestically or internationally, participate in recruiting events, answer questions from prospective students and generally serve as a point of informal contact to prospective students considering Clemson.

  • Graduate School International Ambassadors – these individuals will help the Graduate School increase the international student population from countries underrepresented in our graduate programs. Ambassadors must be full-time, degree-seeking students making adequate progress in
a program of study who have a GPA of at least 3.3 and the support of their department and the Graduate School. If you are interested in helping us enroll other exceptional students from your country, please contact Dr. Bob Lippert and send a brief paragraph with a statement of your interest and the means by which you would be able to help. The message should also include a brief autobiography which describes the department you are in, your research interests, your extracurricular activities and a head and shoulders photo. As many of you know, for an international student, it can be a daunting process to apply to a U.S. university and as questions or problems arise, it’s good for those students to have a primary contact and ally especially from their own institution with whom they can communicate.
  • Graduate School Student Ambassadors for Diversity – these individuals will help the Graduate School increase domestic minority student populations underrepresented in our graduate programs. Contact Dr. Frankie Felder for additional information or to participate. Ambassadors must be full-time, degree-seeking students making adequate progress in a program of study who have a GPA of at least 3.3 and the support of their department and the Graduate School.
  • Graduate School Faculty Ambassadors for Diversity – these individuals will help the Graduate School increase the domestic and international student populations where underrepresentation exists in our graduate programs. Contact Dr. Bruce Rafert or Dr. Frankie Felder for additional information or to participate. Ambassadors must be tenured faculty members at Clemson.
