Professional Enrichment Grants are monetary grants administered by the
Graduate Student Government. The Professional Enrichment Grants (PEGs)
are designed to aid graduate students with costs associated with
attending conferences, workshops and other field experiences. They are
intended to be a grant that is
organized by graduate students and for graduate students. Your grant
application is reviewed by your peers, your fellow graduate students.
PEG applications are online at the GSG website beginning on the day that the application window opens. For specific dates please visit the PEG Dates page.
Fill out the application keeping in mind the criteria in which your
application will be judged. Make sure your application is filled out
for the correct application period. Fall applications are for events
between July 1 through December 31. Spring applications are for events
between January 1 through June 30. You must know about your event and
anticipate the costs before the application deadlines.
You should carefully read the PEG Required Reading packet which can be accessed from the GSG homepage. Extensive information is provided in the packet and is required reading.
Will having other sources of funding or income affect my application?
No. Itemizing other sources of funding allows the reviewer of your
application to better understand how much money you need and for what
item you need the money the most. For example: Your advisor can pay for
the plane ticket and conference registration but cannot pay for your
lodging. It is in your best interest to specify what your professor can
fund so that the PEG could try to fund the other costs. Indicating
that you have applyed for, or received other sources of funding may
actually benefit your application. This is considered a positive factor
and can improve the presentation of the application.
The PEGs are executed on a reimbursement basis. This means that you can
apply for funding for items that you normally get reimbursed for. Check
http://www.clemson.edu/procurement, click on the link Travel in the sidebar, then Employee Travel Guidelines for more information.
The reviewer of your application will use the four judging criteria to
evaluate your application. Make sure you address each criterion in your
application.
Each application will be judged on the following criteria:
Benefit to Clemson University
Projected enrichment of the applicant’s professional or research career
Strength of Curriculum Vitae or resume
Presentation of the application
When making your application, think about how you can fulfill each of the criteria.
PEG applications are judged by a committee composed of members of GSG. An individual member will review your application and present the score and recommendation when the entire committee meets. The committee will then decide wheather or not to issue an award to the applicant.
Once all PEGs have been judged all applicants will receive an email
from GSG indicating that your results have been placed on the PEG Award
and Feedback system. You will be allowed to login to the system with
your CUID and view your award (if applicable) and generalized comments
made by the grants comittee and your reviewer.
When you are notified that you have received a PEG, you will be
required to download a PEG Award Packet from the PEG Award and Feedback
System. Information on the submission of receipts will be in the
packet. General information on awards and receipts is avaialble in the
PEG Required Reading packet which can be accessed from the GSG homepage.
After, you have carefully reviewed all the information
in the PEG Required Reading packet and all the information in the PEG
F.A.Q., you may contact the grants committee chair at
