Faculty Spotlight on Dr. Stephen Klaine

Since 1991, Dr. Klaine has mentored graduate students in the environmental toxicology program here at Clemson. During this time, he has taught many ENTOX graduate courses and graduated over 25 master’s degree and 20 doctoral degree students.

Dr. Klaine’s research currently focuses on characterizing 1) the bioavailability of metals and pesticides in aquatic systems; 2) the comparative phytotoxicty of pesticides; 3) the response of aquatic organisms to episodic contaminant exposures; 4) the water quality consequences of land use; 5) the effects of pharmaceuticals on fish behavior; 6) the bioavailability of PCBs in aquatic systems and the movement of PCBs through the aquatic and terrestrial food chain.

In addition, Dr. Klaine has been principal investigator on several proposals and projects that focus on integrating natural and social scientists to solve problems regarding natural resource management.
