Civil Engineering

MS, PhD

Clemson has been teaching Civil Engineering since the University was founded in 1889. In this field, both the MS and PhD degrees are offered. For the MS degree, students may elect a thesis or non-thesis option. Students can select from a variety of specializations including Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Construction Materials, Applied Fluid Mechanics and Transportation Systems. The faculty in these emphasis areas work closely together to form thrust areas of research in natural and manmade hazard mitigation and construction materials.

The department offers a number of teaching assistantships, research assistantships and Fellowships to highly qualified students. Clemson Civil Engineering students are in demand in their field. Recent graduates have gained employment with both national and regional agencies, including Veatech, US Army Corps of Engineers, Fluor Corporation, and many others.
